Lot: 52 "Olmstead / 1820" Applied Seal Wine Bottle, base embossed " H. Ricketts & Co Glass Works Bristol " and " Patent " on shoulder, England, 1820-1840. Cylindrical, dense olive green, applied sloping collared mouth with ring - pontil scar, ht. 12 3/4 inches, dia. 4 5/8 inches. Unusual size. A painted letter "M" on shoulder apparently to indicate contents as Madeira wine. Found in situation in the wine cellar of a distinguished Virginia gentleman who was a noted connoisseur of aged Madeira. Estimate: $600 - $800 Minimum bid: $350 Price Realized: $936 |
