The 11th Annual Columbus Day Event
The weather for the 11th Annual Columbus Day Event could not have cooperated more than it did on Saturday, October 9th, 2010. The Heckler offices provided a perfect “autumn in New England” farm backdrop of hayfields, an immense 19th century barn and iconic New England stonewalls. Over 90 dealers and 250 people attended this year’s event, making it the largest to date. Attendants traveled as far as California in order to mingle, haggle, buy, sell and participate in the camaraderie of this unique affair.
Once again the event brought together a diverse group of bottle people. The day started with enthusiasts and dealers arriving as early as 6:00 a.m. to claim the best setup location in the Heckler hayfield for the day’s free tailgate. The ringing of the Campanile bell at 9:00 a.m. signaled the beginning of dealer setup, just as it called farmers in from the field many years ago. Condition was exceptional, as was the color, a deep sapphire blue with an inward rolled mouth and a pontil scar. In a pint size, the "firecracker" flask carried an estimate of $40/80,000.
